2008 Octopus Club Totals

You have raised the bar AGAIN!

Thanks to your support, your hard work and your willingness to make a difference, the Octopus Club is pleased to report a very successful "fun-raising" year for 2008. Events held during 2008 allowed the Octopus Club to raise a record $160,585 for the AIDS Services of Austin Paul Kirby Fund. The Paul Kirby Fund provides assistance to our friends and neighbors living with the challenge of HIV. This includes the most basic living essentials such as rent, medication, food and utilities. Since the Octopus Club was founded by Lew Aldridge in 1989, your efforts have helped raise an amazing $1,227,970!

YOU are the Octopus Club

Whether you participated as a guest, host, volunteer, donor or planning committee member, THANK YOU! We are also very grateful to those who kept the Octopus Club alive throughout the year by hosting parties.

Special thanks to parties that keep it up year after year: THE RUBBER DUCK PARTY, THE OSCAR PARTY, THE ALLENDALE HOLIDAY PARTY, FRANK GARRAHANS SOLSTICE PARTY, and all the other first time parties.

This success is due to you and to the tremendous effort of every member of the Octopus Club who put in tireless effort to raise the money to help those in need. It is you who continue to back the work of ASA and help the Octopus Club continue to raise awareness and funds to provide emergency financial assistance to those living with HIV and AIDS in Central Texas.

If You're Not Moving Forward, You're Standing Still

With a leap of faith, we broke with Octopus Club tradition for our annual OctoTea dance. The Oasis had served us so well for so many years, but it was time to ask for your help to take the 2008 event to a new level. And did you deliver! With the OctoTea energy at an all time high, we laughed, we danced, we ate, we drank, and we bid, all while overlooking beautiful downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake. The Long Center proved to be an amazing venue for the OctoTea dance and thanks to you, helped deliver a record $85,674!

Hey Sugar, Take A Walk On The Wild Side

ArtErotica! I can't even write about it without blushing! Dubbed "the sexiest fundraiser event of the year", the most common feedback we got… "You people sure know how to throw a party!" We can't argue with that! ArtErotica 2008 delivered $46,183 for the Paul Kirby Fund. So buckle up, ArtErotica 2009 is right around the corner. Stay tuned, location to be announced!

No Gifts, Please?

In 2009, as you are writing your party evites to celebrate your birthday, your anniversary or any event, you may find yourself including the old adage "No gifts, please." Consider an alternative. Our personal Octopus Club parties for 2008, including the Rubber Duck Party, the Oscar Party and many other personal parties raised over $28,728. It is so easy to do. Just call us, we'll help with the details. And you simply substitute the phrase "No gifts, please" with "In lieu of gifts, please consider making a donation of $25, $35, $50 or more to the Paul Kirby Fund of Austin. Donations will be accepted at the door." It's a beautiful thing to do, and takes away the potential embarrassment of re-gifting back to the original "gifter"!

Hi HO, Bye HO

Our Head Octopi (affectionately called our HOs), are instrumental to the Octopus Club. For their effort and great dedication over the past two years, a big THANK YOU goes to Mark Erwin and Michelle Patterson. To know them is to love them! As Mark and Michelle exit their reign, Arthur Landin and Rich Segal start their second year and step up as Senior Head Octopi. Joining our leadership team as the Junior HOs are Mark Fisette and Dale Atkinson.

You'll Have Fun, We Promise!
